Inspired by the shadows she observed in the earth The artist took months perfecting a technique to convey objects in two dimensions onto canvas. When the objects are alive or perishable like fruit and even people and other objects, they are transformed into paintings of their own. Alexa's painting style is ephemeral, the only thing left of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. Photography and painting techniques are closely coordinated and result in a flat, two-dimensional space that achieves trompe l'oeil. Only certain elements of the picture like hair and eyes, show the 3D dimension. At times, Meade integrates her painted models into the three-dimensional environment around them, which allows them to engage with the self-created universe. This is a way of breaking down the barriers between painting, photography, performance and installation.
